NEW YEAR – BIGGER GOALS
NOTE: SAVE FOR LATER MAINTENANCE
Once again, the time has come to ponder whether or not you’ll make that extra effort to hold yourself to any New Year’s resolutions for the coming year. Most of us have been through the “looks good on paper” routine during many a January, only to frustratingly veer off course by the time February 1st rolls around. But if you want this to be the year where you actually follow through, we’ve got a few pointers on helping you make it to December 31st – and hopefully beyond!
- Write down every goal you’d like to accomplish within the next 365 days — but be realistic! Right now you might feel like exercising every day is doable, but cut yourself a break and commit to three days for the time being. You can always do more, but if you only make three of seven days, you won’t have set yourself up for disappointment.
- For extra motivation, don’t feel awkward about congratulating yourself if you previously met any of last year’s goals. Go wild with praise — place reminders all over your house on note cards so they’re always fresh in your mind!
- Encourage your family and friends to hold you accountable for each resolution. This “support group” will not only help keep you focused on your personal goals, but they’ll get similar benefits in return when you keep them on track as well. Forming a small network will help get all parties involved through the long year!
As difficult as the journey of keeping New Year’s resolutions may be, we all have it within ourselves to get the job done; a few tweaks to the approach and execution just might do the trick!
